We’ve all been there: sweaty palms, racing heart, and the singular focus to showcase yourself as a fitting candidate for a job position. But often, in the moment, we forget that this is not only the interviewer’s chance to get to know us, but also, it’s your chance to get to know a little bit about both the company and the job. You need to know if this job would be a good fit for you as much as they need to know if you’d be a good fit for their company. So, don’t forget to make the most of your interview and ask the questions you want answered!
That being said, we’re happy to offer a glimpse into the RTS internship program so you can determine whether this internship is right for you or not. First thing’s first–we know that Gen Z is often more comfortable sending off a quick text than picking up the phone, but for our internships, you have to be willing to dial it up. A lot of what you’ll do involves speaking to truck drivers to get freight covered. So if you have phone-phobia, this might not be your calling. But then again, it could be just what you need to get accustomed to the frequent internal and external communication that happens in many different businesses. Some of our past interns have specifically talked about how they got to interact with many different people, fostering valuable networking skills.
Another thing to know ahead of time about this internship is just how fast-paced it is. Although we do offer a two-week training program at the beginning of your internship so that you’re more prepared, it can still be a lot of information and you start off with the important stuff quickly. The good news is that means very few coffee runs and a lot more practical experience, but it can be overwhelming at first, so if you’re looking for a more gradual introduction to the business world, this probably isn’t it.
Finally, it’s important to note that this internship takes place fully in our Beechmont office. Not only do we feel that this is necessary for you to best support the rest of the team, but also, it allows you to build a sense of community and take advantage of the great atmosphere here. Still, we know that there are people out there seeking remote positions, and if that’s you, we unfortunately may not be the best fit.
We welcome you to apply if all of this sounds good to you–we’re always looking for great people who work hard and want to be a part of our great team!
